The most common cases have been of choking. There are many toys available in the market but most of them come with a disclaimer mentioning specific age group. Please look for that disclaimer before buying any toy for your child. Toys recommended for six years old, cannot be given to three years old, as he/she can put them in the mouth and choke himself/herself. The kind of toys you give to your child depends on his/her maturity level.
Please do not give balloons especially deflated ones to your child because if he/she accidentally swallows it, the latex can block the air passage completely and make it impossible for him/her to breathe.
Do not buy any heavy toy for your baby as he/she can drop it while trying to pick it up, and hurt himself/herself.
Avoid buying toys that have long cords. He/she can put it around the neck and choke himself/herself.
It is absolutely fine to pass on older child’s toy to the younger one. But before doing that please check the toy for inflammable batteries or rusted parts.
Toys with magnets can pose a serious threat if swallowed by your baby. It can cause the intestinal walls to twist and also cause serious issues like blockage, holes and infections.
Be careful when you give play dough to your baby. They contain toxic chemical substances like cadmium, lead, mercury, and arsenic and if swallowed can cause severe infections. These chemicals may also be present in stuffed animals and children’s accessories.
Check for loose pieces, sharp edges or glass pieces before giving any toy to your baby.
