The day to day life changes when a baby enters into the equation. The welfare of the baby is of paramount importance and everything else will have to be arranged around that.
The first thing that changes with having a baby in the house is sleep. Lack of sleep is inevitable and can make both partners irritable. Household chore and errands become ordeals for which you have no energy.
Being a new parent is a wonderful experience, but at the same time it is difficult and stressful. This can generate many different feelings. It is common for new parents to feel guilty when they’re not enjoying every second of being a new parent. But it is important to know that this is normal. Taking a break from the baby now and then is a good idea as then you can come back rejuvenated.
Sometimes new fathers may have feelings of jealousy as the baby takes up much of the mother’s time. As the mother takes care of most of the baby’s needs initially, the father may feel a little left out. Involving the father in some of the parenting duties right from the beginning will result in him developing a bond with the baby and also the division of labour will give the mother some time to rest.
With the new dynamics in place, everyday chores may become a cause for disagreements. The mother may feel unable to cope with all the work around the house along with caring for the new-born as well. When such situations arise, the best option is to find a suitable time when both are relaxed and talk about anything that is bothering them. Keeping an open mind helps as does the realization that it is alright to have some chores undone right now.
Mothers may also feel insecure as pregnancy alters the body and now she has a body which is quite different from earlier. Taking care of the baby, late nights, sleep deprivation all may work together to make her feel self-conscious. She may also be less interested in intimacy.
Communication is always the best way keep any situation in control. Seeing something from the perspective of another person gives an understanding of the point of view of the other person. So talking about how both are feeling, any worries that they may have will help to work out the problems and working together to solve the problems will keep them close.
