The birth of a baby is celebrated not just by the mother and father, but by the whole family consisting of cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents and other extended family members. The coming of a new life is a cause of joy all around. This is increased many times if the family is involved before the baby is born and is a part of the pregnancy.
It is a great support to the mother and father if there is family around to help during the first trimester of pregnancy. In a first pregnancy especially, when both may be unfamiliar with many symptoms and aspects of pregnancy, having family around can be a great comfort. Older female relatives who are experienced can help with many questions an expecting mother may have and can reassure and calm any fears. They can also spot if there is a sign of any untoward happening so that emergencies can be averted.
Having someone from the family to help during those days of early pregnancy, when nausea and morning sickness can make it difficult to eat or drink can be invaluable. Some women are able to eat better if they do not do the cooking and keep away from the fumes. So if someone else does the cooking, it may make it possible for the expectant mother to eat.
It is a good idea to have a close family member to be around at all time from the time the pregnancy is confirmed. Having someone other than the partner to accompany the mother for the various tests and doctor visits can be a comfort as both the new parents may be tensed. Having a family member around during the pregnancy routine may be helpful, especially if the partner has to travel for work.
During the early days of pregnancy, the mother may be tired and too fatigued to look after herself as well as required. It is a blessing to have a loving family around to take care of the mother and asking for their help at such time will make them happy too.
