Shopping can be a pretty exhaustive task, especially when it’s for your newborn baby. You would want to provide the world to them and that reflects in your shopping if you go unprepared. But why waste money on things neither you nor your baby will ever get around to using. Our handy list of newborn baby essentials is here to help. Shop smart and get the things your baby might need and save a ton of money.
Let’s begin with the first category.
The Baby’s Room
You’ll need a comfortable crib your baby can sleep in, cosy cushion for the crib, at least 5 baby sheets for the cushion, a couple of thin blankets, and a humidifier. These are pretty much the essentials, but you can also buy a rocking chair, a dresser, and a bassinet if you feel like splurging.
If you have a big house and you’ll be in different rooms for a considerable amount of time, we would recommend getting a baby monitor just to be safe.
Next, we have the things that you absolutely shouldn’t buy for your baby’s room. The first big no is a second hand crib. Always go for a new one to avoid the transmission of any diseases or infections. The second thing you should avoid getting is a pillow because that can often been linked to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Also skip mattress padding and sleep positions.
The first feeding essentials are bottles and nipples. Buy at least 10 pairs of each to begin with. Next up we have the bottle cleaning brush, a bottle drying rack, baby formula to last quite some time, and a pack of cloth diapers. Some of the non essentials for feeding include dry formula dispenser and bottle sterilizer.
For breastfeeding, you need a nursing pillow, a bunch of nursing bras, a couple of boxes of nursing pads, a box of cotton bibs. You can also buy a breast pump if you feel the need to, containers to store breast milk, and some nipple cream.
Once your baby is older and consuming solid food, you should get a high chair, plastic bibs, infant spoons and bowls.
Keeping your baby clean and the surrounds hygienic is an absolute priority. To that end, buy a big pack of infant diapers, baby wipes, diaper rash cream, and a couple of cotton dining table pads.
That ends our list of baby essentials. Shop smart and make sure you only buy high quality stuff for your precious one.
