The eyesight of newborns is blurry to start with and they can see from 8 inches to 12 inches away. They are happy sleeping most of the time, waking up only when hungry or needs a nappy change.
By one month, the lil ones’ color vision starts developing and they start recognizing bright colors. While awake, they start kicking their hands and legs to strengthen their muscles.
By the second month, infants’ eye muscles starts developing so that they can follow the object in front of them to some extent. They also can clasp their hands and like playing with them.
Newborns love to listen and respond best to high-pitched voice (typically their mother’s) and also enjoy listening to music.
Rattles: Once your baby starts clasping his or her hands, you can give a rattle to hold, shake and listen to the sounds it makes. Choose rattles, which produce gentle and soothing sounds as noisy ones can startle or irritate your lil one.
Mobiles: Mobiles are toys, which come with dangling toys, or characters that can be stationary or move in a circular fashion along with soothing music and or lights. Mobiles can be attached to cribs or prams. Their bright lights, colors and soothing music keep your child occupied, develops eye tracking and sound perception skills and doubles up as soother. Attach them to your baby’s crib and watch your child enjoy the slow movement, colorful lights and music.
Play-Gyms: Play-gyms typically have a mat on which your baby can lie down and an activity bar hung with rattles, soft or squeaky toys, mirrors, peek-a-boos etc. Many of them make a sound or play music when your child bats, squeezes or grabs them. The play-gym is a good and a constructive way to keep your baby occupied. They improve your child’s gross motor skills while your lil one discovers and enjoys the different moving toys and the sound that they make.
Bouncers & Rockers: As a newborn’s mother, you would love to spend as much time as possible with your baby and so does your baby. But this may mean staying near your baby’s crib most of the time while you may have your daily chores to take care of. This is where a bouncer or a rocker can help you. These light-weight and mobile baby carriers enables you to keep your baby close to you while you take a shower or busy preparing a meal. Many of these carriers come with bouncing and soothing features to keep your baby happy. It will be a good idea to choose a bouncer or a rocker that can support both the newborns and the toddler for a longer usage.
