First and foremost you should share the responsibility of raising your baby with your husband. For the healthy development of your child, the father should be equally involved in the upbringing. Since mothers usually spend more time with the baby, the father should also make efforts to connect with the baby and also provide relief to the mother on a regular basis. The tasks that can be delegated to the father include changing diapers, putting the baby to sleep, helping in feeding when he/she starts on solid foods, soothing the baby when he/she is fussy, taking her out for strolls and taking charge of the baby while you catch up on some much-needed sleep.
If you are a part of a joint family, it makes your work a lot easier. There will be grandparents or some other family members to help you look after the baby post delivery and beyond that. The elderly people can also give you numerous home-made remedies that are needed before and after pregnancy. Usually, as is the norm, the grandmothers usually take charge of bathing the baby and can help in putting her to sleep, giving the new mother some much-needed respite. Growing up in a joint family also helps your baby to develop social skills from the beginning as he/she will get used to being around people other than the parents, and grandparents or uncles and aunts usually love to play with kids.
You can also employ the services of a nanny to cater to your constant needs. With your baby on your lap, you will need someone to help you by putting everything within your arm’s reach. A nanny is usually trained in baby upbringing. Hence, you do not have to make the extra effort to train them to help you. Having a nanny will also give you some time to sleep and rest. If you have had a C-section, it will be extremely difficult for you to do a lot of things until at least the time your body recovers from the aftereffects of a surgery. Having a nanny in a nuclear family is extremely essential because apart from you and your husband, there will be nobody to look after your baby. However, you must check the antecedents of the nanny or the centre from which you intend to hire one. You should always insist on references and on photocopies of address and identity proof before you entrust your beloved bundle of joy in his/her care.
